Wafeq's integration with ChatGPT lets you work with your accounting data in plain language. Once you connect them, you can ask ChatGPT about your invoices, bills, contacts, payments and reports, or ask it to create and update records for you, without switching screens or exporting data.
The integration uses Wafeq's secure connector. ChatGPT always acts as you, so it can only see and do what your role allows, and only in the organizations you choose to share.
Key Benefits
- Get instant answers about your business, such as overdue invoices, your profit and loss for a period, or your cash position.
- Create invoices, quotes, bills, contacts, payments and journal entries by simply describing them in a chat.
- Review reports such as Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Aged Receivables and VAT reports without building them manually.
- Work across several organizations from one chat, and choose exactly which ones ChatGPT can access.
- Stay in control: access follows your Wafeq role, you can connect in read-only mode, and you can disconnect at any time.
Before You Begin
- You need a Wafeq account with access to at least one organization.
- You need a ChatGPT account that can add custom plugins (custom MCP servers).
- If you use ChatGPT through your company (a business workspace), your ChatGPT admin may need to turn this option on first.
- Sign in to both Wafeq and ChatGPT in the same browser before you start.

Step 4: Connect Wafeq
ChatGPT explains how data is shared between ChatGPT and the app. Click "Connect Wafeq". Wafeq opens in a new tab.
Step 5: Choose the organizations
On the page "Choose the organizations to connect to ChatGPT":
- Check the email address shown under Organizations. ChatGPT will act as this user. If it isn't your account, click "Log out" and sign in with the correct one.
- Select the organizations ChatGPT can access. You can search for an organization or use "Select all". Your role in each organization appears next to its name.
Step 6: Choose what ChatGPT can do, then connect
Scroll down to "ChatGPT will be able to":
- Read data is always included. ChatGPT can read invoices, bills, contacts, payments and more in the selected organizations.
- Allow changes: leave it ticked if you'd like ChatGPT to create, update, post, approve and delete records when your role allows it. Untick it to connect in read-only mode.
Click "Connect". You'll be taken back to ChatGPT.
Step 7: Confirm the connection
On ChatGPT's Plugins page, open the "Personal" tab. Wafeq appears under "Created by you", and a message confirms that it's connected.
How to Use Wafeq in ChatGPT
- Start a new chat in ChatGPT.
- Type @ and select Wafeq from the list.
- Paste the starter prompt from the "Connect ChatGPT" window, then send it:
"Look at my Wafeq account and show me what you can do for me."
ChatGPT checks which organizations it can access and replies with a summary, such as each organization's base currency and whether e-invoicing reporting is enabled, followed by the tasks it can help you with based on your access.
What You Can Ask ChatGPT to Do
- Financial reports: Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Trial Balance and General Ledger.
- Customer collections: find overdue invoices, review receivables and download customer statements of account.
- Sales: create quotes, invoices and credit notes, and convert quotes into invoices.
- Purchases and expenses: record bills and cash expenses, create purchase orders and review aged payables.
- Banking: review bank transactions and match them with invoices, bills or journal entries.
- VAT and ZATCA: review VAT return and VAT summary reports, and report invoices to ZATCA when e-invoicing is enabled for your organization.
- Inventory and manufacturing: items, inventory adjustments, inventory counts and production orders.
- Payroll and assets: employees, payroll, payslips, fixed assets and depreciation.
- Bookkeeping: manual journals, chart of accounts, cost centers and projects.
Example Prompts
- "Show me last month's profit and loss and compare it with the month before."
- "Which customer invoices are overdue, and what's the total amount?"
- "Create a draft invoice for [customer name] for 5 hours of consulting at 500 SAR per hour, including VAT."
- "List the unpaid bills that are due this week."
- "Record a payment of 2,000 SAR received from [customer name] against invoice INV-0012."
Managing and Disconnecting the Integration
Go to Settings > Integrations in Wafeq. ChatGPT appears with the "Connected" status. Click the people list (for example, "1 person") to see who connected ChatGPT to this organization and when. Click "Disconnect" next to your connection to stop ChatGPT from accessing Wafeq.
You can also remove the Wafeq plugin from ChatGPT's Plugins page. To connect again, click "+ Add integration", then "Connect" next to ChatGPT, and repeat the steps above.
User Permissions and Security
- ChatGPT acts as you: it can only view and do what your role allows in each organization. For example, if your role can't approve bills, ChatGPT can't approve them either.
- Only the organizations you select are shared. To change them, disconnect and connect again.
- Read-only access: untick "Allow changes" while connecting if you only want ChatGPT to read your data.
- Personal connection: each user connects their own ChatGPT account. Your connection doesn't give other team members access.
- Access duration: access lasts up to 90 days. Changing your Wafeq password also ends it. You can reconnect at any time.
- Confirmation before irreversible actions: ChatGPT is instructed to ask for your confirmation before actions that can't be undone, such as deleting records, reporting invoices to ZATCA, or emailing documents to customers. Always review what ChatGPT is about to do before you confirm.
Limitations and Important Notes
- Wafeq records accounting entries but doesn't transfer money. ChatGPT can record a payment in Wafeq, but it can't send or receive funds.
- What ChatGPT can do depends on your Wafeq plan. Features that aren't included in your plan, such as advanced consolidation or revenue recognition, aren't available to ChatGPT.
- AI can make mistakes. Review the records ChatGPT creates, especially amounts, taxes, dates and accounts, before you finalize or post them.
- ChatGPT's own privacy settings apply to your chats. ChatGPT may share relevant memories and chats with Wafeq to answer your requests. You can review these settings, and disconnect Wafeq, from your ChatGPT settings.
- If you use ChatGPT through your company, your ChatGPT admin may need to allow custom plugins first. For more details, see ChatGPT's help page.
- ChatGPT's screens may change over time, so some button names may differ slightly from the screenshots in this article.
Troubleshooting
- Wafeq doesn't appear when you type @: make sure the plugin appears under Personal > Created by you on the Plugins page, then start a new chat.
- The wrong account appears on the Wafeq page: click "Log out", sign in with the correct Wafeq account, and continue.
- ChatGPT can't find an organization: the organization wasn't selected while connecting. Disconnect, then connect again and select it.
- ChatGPT can't create or edit records: you connected in read-only mode, or your role in that organization doesn't allow the action.
- The connection stopped working: access may have expired after 90 days, or your Wafeq password was changed. Connect again.
