Wafeq E-Invoicing ASP Portal: Getting Started and Connecting Businesses (UAE)

In this guide, you’ll learn what the Wafeq e-invoicing ASP portal is, who it is for, and how to use it from the very beginning: creating your organization, testing in Sandbox, subscribing to go live, connecting a business (taxpayer) through EmaraTax, signing in as a taxpayer, and offboarding.

What Is the Wafeq E-Invoicing ASP Portal?

In the UAE, businesses send and receive e-invoices through an Accredited Service Provider (ASP). Wafeq is an accredited ASP and is listed in EmaraTax as Wafeq FZ LLC.

The Wafeq e-invoicing ASP portal (einvoicing.wafeq.com) is a standalone product, separate from Wafeq Accounting. It lets a business that keeps using its current accounting software or ERP send and receive e-invoices over the Peppol network and have them reported to the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), either through the API or by importing Excel files.

In the portal, you can:

  • Connect one or more businesses (taxpayers) and get their permission to send and receive e-invoices on their behalf.
  • Send e-invoices by importing an Excel or CSV file, or through the API.
  • Follow every invoice, credit note, bill and debit note with its delivery and FTA reporting status.
  • Manage API keys and webhooks for your technical team.
  • Test everything for free in Sandbox before going live.

Note: If you issue your invoices from Wafeq Accounting, you don’t need this portal to send e-invoices. E-invoicing is built into Wafeq Accounting, and you connect it from Settings > Organization settings > FTA e-invoicing. Refer to How to select Wafeq as your ASP from the FTA/EmaraTax portal.

Who Should Use the Portal?

  • Businesses that use another accounting software or a custom ERP (for example, SAP or Oracle) and want to stay on it. Your development team or an implementation partner connects your system to Wafeq through the API, or you import Excel files.
  • Accounting firms and software platforms that handle e-invoicing for several client businesses. Each client is connected to your organization as a taxpayer.
  • Any business already connected to Wafeq as its ASP that wants to view its e-invoices or manage connected apps, by signing in to its taxpayer account.

Key Concepts

  • Organization: Your workspace in the portal. It holds your team members, API keys, subscription and the taxpayers you work with. Accounting firms and IT companies can create more than one organization, for example one per client.
  • Taxpayer: A business that issues or receives e-invoices, identified by its Tax Identification Number (TIN). A group with three companies has three taxpayers.
  • Consent (connection): A taxpayer does two things once. First, in EmaraTax, it selects Wafeq FZ LLC as its e-invoicing provider. Then it approves your organization’s connection request. A business can connect more than one organization and can disconnect any of them at any time.
  • Sandbox and Live: Two separate environments. Sandbox is for testing: nothing is sent to the FTA or the Peppol network, and it is free. Live is where real e-invoices are sent and reported, and it requires a paid subscription.

Before You Start

Make sure you have the following:

  • A Wafeq account (the same account you use for Wafeq Accounting works) to sign in to the Developer portal.
  • For each business you will connect: its TIN, the email of the admin of its EmaraTax account, its business address, and its commercial registration (trade license, Emirates ID, passport or Cabinet decision).
  • Access to the business’s EmaraTax account, or the business owner available to complete the EmaraTax step.
  • A paid Platform Start or Platform Scale subscription before you connect any taxpayer in Live. Sandbox needs no subscription.

Important: If your business is registered for any tax type with the FTA, your TIN is the first 10 digits of your TRN. Every business set up in the UAE gets a TIN when it registers for Corporate Tax.

Step 1: Open the Portal and Choose How to Log In

Go to einvoicing.wafeq.com. The login page shows two options:

  • "Developer portal": Choose this to manage your organization, connect taxpayers, import files and manage integrations. Most users start here.
  • "Taxpayer account": Choose this only to sign in as a business that is already connected to Wafeq, using the email registered with the FTA in EmaraTax. See Sign In as a Taxpayer below.
Wafeq e-invoicing ASP login page with Taxpayer account and Developer portal options

Tip: Choosing the wrong option is the most common sign-in issue. If you want to set up an organization or connect businesses, always choose "Developer portal".

Step 2: Create Your Organization

Click "Developer portal" and sign in with your Wafeq account. The first time you sign in, you are asked to create an organization:

  1. Under "Where will this organization issue e-invoices?", select "United Arab Emirates".
  2. Enter the "Organization name".
  3. Click "Continue to portal".
Create your organization screen with United Arab Emirates selected

Note: The country can’t be changed after the organization is created. If you issue e-invoices in more than one country, create one organization per country.

Your organization opens in Sandbox on the "Get started" page, which walks you through the first steps and includes the portal walkthrough video.

Step 3: Get to Know the Portal

Switch between Sandbox and Live

Use "Environment" at the top of the left menu to switch between "Live" and "Sandbox". Sandbox is a separate copy for testing: nothing is sent to the FTA and nothing counts toward billing. A yellow banner at the top of the page reminds you when you are in Sandbox.

Environment menu showing Live and Sandbox

Note: Sandbox and Live are completely separate. Taxpayers, documents, API keys and webhooks you create in Sandbox do not move to Live.

The main menu

  • Get started: Step-by-step setup checklist for the current environment.
  • Dashboard: Document activity across all your taxpayers: what was issued, what was received, and any delivery issues.
  • Reports: Invoice volumes and tax totals for any date range, per taxpayer, with CSV export.
  • Files: Import e-invoices from Excel or CSV files and follow their progress.
  • Taxpayers: The businesses connected to your organization.
  • Sales (Invoices, Credit Notes) and Purchases (Bills, Debit Notes): Every document your taxpayers issued or received, with its delivery and FTA reporting status.
  • Developer: The Developer Console for your technical team: API keys, webhooks, events and integration settings. You don’t need it to work in the portal.

The account menu

Click your name at the bottom of the left menu to open "My account", "Settings" and "Billing & pricing", switch between your organizations, create a new organization (+), or "Sign in as taxpayer".

Step 4: Invite Your Team (Optional)

  1. Open the account menu and click "Settings", then open the "Members" tab.
  2. Under "Invite a member", enter your colleague’s "Email" and choose a "Role".
  3. Click "Send invite". Your colleague receives an email and accepts by signing in, or creating an account, with the invited address.

On the "Organization settings" tab, you can also set the display name, logo and support email that taxpayers see on the onboarding pages.

Step 5: Subscribe to Go Live

Sandbox is free. To connect taxpayers and send e-invoices in Live, you need an active subscription. Until you subscribe, the Live "Taxpayers" page shows that you have no available seats and the "Connect a taxpayer" button isn’t available.

Live Taxpayers page showing 0 seats and the seat capacity message

  1. Open the account menu and click "Billing & pricing". The page shows your "Document wallet" and the available plans.
  2. Choose a plan:
    • Platform Start: Self-serve, for taxpayers managed through the portal. Click "Subscribe to Platform Start".
    • Platform Scale: For businesses and integrations that need API taxpayer creation, volume discounts or negotiated pricing. Click "Contact sales".
Billing page showing Platform Start and Platform Scale plans

If you choose Platform Start, complete the subscription page:

  1. Choose how to pay: "Monthly" (AED 89 per seat per month, 15 documents included per seat each month) or "Annual" (AED 890 per seat per year, 1,000 documents included per seat each year).
  2. Choose your taxpayer seats: One seat for each taxpayer you will onboard to Live. You can add seats later.
  3. Add extra documents (optional): Packs from 100 to 10,000 documents, from AED 0.35 down to AED 0.20 per document.
  4. Billing details: Enter the business name, billing email, address, city, country and, if you are VAT registered, your TRN. These appear on your invoices.
  5. Review the "Summary" and click "Subscribe with Stripe" to pay by card on the Stripe payment page.
Subscribe to Platform Start: choose monthly or annual billing and seats

Subscribe to Platform Start: extra document packs and summary

Good to know:

  • Prices exclude 5% UAE VAT.
  • An onboarded taxpayer occupies a seat. Drafts and Sandbox taxpayers are free.
  • Each successfully processed document (an invoice sent or received) uses one credit from your document wallet.
  • Included documents are added at each billing cycle. Extra document packs never expire while your subscription is active, and you can buy more at any time from "Billing & pricing".
  • Annual billing includes 5.6 times the documents of monthly billing and saves 17%.

Step 6: Connect a Taxpayer

A business connects to your organization by opening a connection link you send it. We recommend running the whole flow in Sandbox first, then repeating it in Live.

Create the connection link

  1. Make sure the correct environment is selected, then click "Taxpayers" in the left menu.
  2. Click "Connect a taxpayer".
Taxpayers page with the Connect a taxpayer button

  1. Under "Access", keep the permissions you need: "Business details", "Read e-invoices", "Send e-invoices" and "Receive incoming e-invoices".
  2. In "Expected TIN (optional)", enter the business’s 10-digit TIN so that only that business can use the link.
  3. In "Label (optional)", add a name that helps you recognize the connection, such as a branch or workspace.
  4. Click "Create link".
Connect a taxpayer dialog with access options, Expected TIN and Label

  1. Click "Copy" and send the link to the business (or open it yourself if you have access to the business’s EmaraTax account).
  2. Click "Done".

Note: The link works once and expires after 7 days. Create a new link for each business.

What the business does when it opens the link

When the business opens the link, it sees your organization’s name and three steps.

1. Choose Wafeq in EmaraTax (Live)

The business clicks "Go to EmaraTax". In EmaraTax, it opens E-Invoicing, selects its TIN, picks Wafeq FZ LLC from the list of accredited service providers, and clicks "Proceed to ASP", which brings it back to the portal. The EmaraTax screens are shown step by step in How to select Wafeq as your ASP from the FTA/EmaraTax portal.

In Sandbox, this step is simulated: the page shows "Simulate EmaraTax onboarding". Enter a test "Taxpayer email", keep the "Scenario" as "Successful onboarding", and click "Simulate onboarding". Sandbox creates a test taxpayer with a new TIN.

Simulate EmaraTax onboarding in Sandbox

Note: If the business is already onboarded with Wafeq (for example, through Wafeq Accounting or another organization), it clicks "Sign in to connect" instead. It receives a sign-in link at its EmaraTax email and continues directly to the consent step.

2. Verify the business

Back in the portal, the business enters its "Tax Identification Number (TIN)" and the email registered in EmaraTax, then clicks "Verify & continue". Wafeq checks both with the FTA.

Verify your business details with TIN and email

Important: Use the email of the admin of the EmaraTax account. If you use another user’s email, verification fails.

The business then reviews the details returned by the FTA (legal name, VAT TRN, TIN, legal type) and completes:

  • Business address: "Emirate", "Street address" and "City". This is used as the seller address on invoices.
  • Commercial registration: "Registration type" (Trade license, Emirates ID, Passport or Cabinet decision), "Registration number" and, optionally, "Issuing authority". Every e-invoice carries it, and the FTA doesn’t provide it.
Confirm and connect: FTA details and business address

Commercial registration fields and Connect button

It clicks "Connect", then confirms. Wafeq registers the business with the FTA and on the Peppol network. This usually takes a few seconds.

3. Approve access (consent)

The business sees exactly what your organization is asking for, such as viewing its business details, reading its e-invoices and issuing invoices on its behalf. It clicks "Connect" to approve, or "Don’t allow" to decline.

Review and connect consent screen

Note: If your organization hasn’t been reviewed by Wafeq yet, the business sees the message "Wafeq e-invoicing ASP hasn’t reviewed this app". The business should connect only if it knows and trusts your organization.

The "Connection complete" page confirms the connection.

View the connected taxpayer

Back in your organization, the business appears on the "Taxpayers" page with the status "Onboarded".

Taxpayers list showing an onboarded taxpayer

Click the taxpayer’s name to see its details (TIN, VAT TRN, Peppol ID, status and "Taxpayer ID"), the access it granted, its onboarding activity and its invoices. You need the Taxpayer ID (it starts with txpay_) when you import e-invoices from a file.

Note: To stop your organization’s access to a taxpayer, click "Disconnect taxpayer" on this page.

Step 7: Send and Track E-Invoices

Once a taxpayer is connected, you can send its e-invoices in two ways:

Developer Console overview

Every document appears under Sales or Purchases with its "Status", "Delivery" and "Tax report" columns. Use "Reports" to see invoice volumes and tax totals.

Sales Invoices list with delivery and tax report status

Important: Delivering an e-invoice over Peppol doesn’t guarantee that your customer’s software shows it. Keep sending your customers a copy of the invoice the way you usually do, for example by email.

Sign In as a Taxpayer

A business connected to Wafeq can sign in to its own taxpayer account to see its e-invoices and control which apps can access its data.

  1. Go to einvoicing.wafeq.com and click "Taxpayer account". (If you are already in the Developer portal, open the account menu and click "Sign in as taxpayer".)
  2. In "Email registered with the FTA", enter the email registered in EmaraTax.
  3. Click "Email me a sign-in link", then open the link from your email. There is no password.

Note: The sign-in link expires after 15 minutes. If your EmaraTax email has changed, choose Reverify for Wafeq FZ LLC in EmaraTax to update it. Make sure you are signing in to Live, not Sandbox, if your business was onboarded in Live.

The taxpayer account has four tabs:

  • Overview: The number of documents sent and received, connected apps and recent documents.
  • Documents: All e-invoices and credit notes issued and received through your ASP account, from any connected app.
  • Connected apps: The apps and organizations you allowed to access your business, such as Wafeq Accounting. Click "Disconnect" to stop an app’s access right away.
  • Account: Your business as registered with the FTA (TIN, VAT TRN, Peppol ID, status, sign-in email) and your commercial registration, which you can edit here.

Offboarding: Stop Using Wafeq as Your ASP

Changing your ASP or deregistering always starts in EmaraTax. It can’t be started from the portal; this is an EmaraTax requirement.

  1. Sign in to EmaraTax and open E-Invoicing > Linkage status.
  2. Next to Wafeq FZ LLC, choose Offboarding. EmaraTax takes you to the portal.
  3. Enter your TIN and EmaraTax email, then click "Verify & disconnect".
  4. Review your details and click "Disconnect", then confirm.

Wafeq is removed as your provider with the FTA, and your Peppol registration is withdrawn. Connected apps lose access, but your taxpayer account and documents are kept. In EmaraTax, the linkage status shows as delinked. To come back later, onboard again.

Note: The screenshots above are from Sandbox, where you can practice offboarding from "Account" > "Simulate deregistration". In Live, the same portal pages open after you choose Offboarding in EmaraTax. To update your EmaraTax email or other FTA details without leaving Wafeq, choose Reverify in EmaraTax instead.

Troubleshooting

Issue What to do
I chose "Taxpayer account" but wanted to set up my organization. Go back to the login page and choose "Developer portal". "Taxpayer account" is only for businesses already connected to Wafeq.
Verification fails when the business enters its TIN and email. Make sure the TIN is correct (the first 10 digits of the TRN) and that the email is the one of the admin of the EmaraTax account. Then try again; each attempt starts fresh.
The taxpayer sign-in link doesn’t arrive. Use the email registered in EmaraTax, check your spam folder, and make sure you are signing in to Live (not Sandbox). If it still doesn’t arrive, contact support.
I can’t find "Connect a taxpayer" in Live. You need an active subscription with a free taxpayer seat. Go to "Billing & pricing" to subscribe or add seats.
The connection link doesn’t work. Each link works once and expires after 7 days. If you entered an Expected TIN, only that business can use it. Create a new link.
The business is linked to Wafeq in EmaraTax but doesn’t appear in my organization. The business may have selected Wafeq in EmaraTax without opening your connection link, so it hasn’t approved your organization’s access. Send it a new connection link and ask it to click "Sign in to connect". If the problem continues, contact support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the portal the same as Wafeq Accounting?
No. The portal is a separate product for businesses that keep their own accounting software or ERP. Wafeq Accounting includes e-invoicing at no extra cost on all plans.

Do I need a subscription to try the portal?
No. Sandbox is free and needs no subscription. You only need a subscription to connect taxpayers and send e-invoices in Live.

Can one organization manage several businesses?
Yes. Each business is a taxpayer and uses one seat. Platform Scale is available for organizations with many taxpayers.

Do I still need to send the invoice PDF to my customer?
Yes. Not every buyer’s software shows incoming e-invoices, so keep sending your invoices as usual.

Is there a QR code on UAE e-invoices?
No. UAE e-invoices don’t carry a QR code.

Can I change the portal language to Arabic?
The portal is currently available in English only.
